Mexico

Oil on paper, 48 x 36 cm. 1994 Hanover. No. 1433.
I have never been to Mexico before. When I painted this picture, I didn’t associate it with Mexico at all. Later however, needing to find a name for the picture, the idea came to mind to associate the painting with Mexico. Maybe because the picture triggered a strong contrast to temperature within me. The yellow in the center as the daytime sun, and the black around it as cold night. Due to the scant vegetation and the hot-cold impression, both elements, apart from a few trees, reminded me of a cactus. Thus this picture was titled „Mexico".
